Hysterical story time. Recently, Becky Sauerbrunn and her husband Zola Short caught up with one of their friends Lucas – to be honest, more of a childhood friend of Zola’s – as the two attended the same elementary, middle, high school, and even the University of Virginia together. During the meet-up, Lucas and his wife shared a hilarious story about their son James, something which led Sauerbrunn to reveal something special.

The couple revealed that the little boy was trained to nature’s call and would inform them if he wanted to relieve himself for business. Interestingly, such was an ask from the three-year-old when the family was at the Norfolk Airport, with Lucas taking his boy to a public restroom. As the two were washing their hands, James asked his dad where exactly things went when they were flushed. Seemingly confused, Lucas said, “What do you mean buddy? We just flushed it down the toilet… it’s gone.”

But talk about kids… little James was rather left quite distraught hearing the response, and promptly told his dad that he wanted his stool back with him. However, Lucas, trying to remain composed, calmly explained that once it’s flushed, it goes into the pipes and can’t come back. James, overwhelmed, began to panic, throwing a tantrum. As they made their way through Norfolk Airport, Lucas tried to console him—rubbing his back while James had a full-blown meltdown. Eventually, the little one wore himself out, sobbing quietly in his father’s arms.

Quite a side-splitting tale, right? Well,  she made this revelation on the Good Vibes segment of The Women’s Game podcast co-hosted by Sam Mewis and Becky Sauerbrunn. But what followed next had Mewis completely caught off guard. “I’m pregnant,” said Becky, while calling this hilarious story her good vibe of the weekend, insisting that one day she may also be the one going through such a situation with her first child in the future.

“I was crying, laughing so hard when he told the story because I was like, ‘Yeah these are the moments that I’m hopefully—if everything goes well—that I will get to experience,'” added the 39-year-old before revealing that she is due in October. Hearing this, Mewis said that little did she know that her former USWNT teammate was pregnant but to use this story of her friend as an icebreaker was indeed unexpected.

Notably, Sauerbrunn even similarly announced her retirement last year, that too, at the same platform. But now as the former Portland Thorns star isn’t playing anymore, she still does broadcast gigs for TNT Sports, covering the USWNT matches. But from the looks of it, the former defender might have to take a break from that too.

“I’m probably not going to be doing broadcast after a while. I’ll be hopefully still doing stuff [podcast] with you here in the house but yeah I’m going to be taking it easy for a little bit coming up here,” remarked Sauerbrunn. However, there are still some questions regarding Sauerbrunn’s pregnancy. For starters, how did she end up planning on finally having a little one of her own, and more importantly, how is she feeling?

Becky Sauerbrunn is ‘scared’ yet ‘excited’ for what’s ahead!

The 2x World Cup winner revealed that both she and Zola Short felt the time was right to have a baby. Then again, part of the decision also stems from all of her friends who were having babies. Our guesses are Alex Morgan, who earlier gave birth to her son Enzo or even USWNT stars Mallory Swanson and Sophia Wilson announcing their pregnancy as well – they might’ve been factors that influenced the couple’s decision. However, she does have one complaint!

“All of my pregnant friends and moms gatekept a lot of stuff from us who have not been pregnant before. There are things happening that I just didn’t know were going to happen,” she revealed, insisting that God ended up giving her a chance to share her own story, something that she’s really excited about.

Becky also described that her husband is also quite “stoked,” and quite enthusiastic about the good times ahead. For Sauerbrunn, you ask? Well, it’s a mixed feeling. “I’m still like ‘What is happening to me? This is wild this is crazy. I don’t know what to expect.’ I’m scared but I’m also very excited,” concluded the former Utah Royals star.

Well, we can certainly understand that feeling. For now, we wish Becky Sauerbrunn and Zola Short the best on this great news!
