Is sport the ultimate test of tenacity, heroics, and nerves of steel? We’d like to think so—and if you’re not convinced, the beautiful game might just change your mind. Storytime: During the 2010 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas was taken down by FC Barcelona’s Carles Puyol. While the Catalan defender was sent off, Fabregas won a penalty. With five minutes remaining on the clock, he calmly slotted home a crucial equalizer from the spot. But as the midfielder rushed to retrieve the ball and run back to the halfway line, he suddenly collapsed in pain.

Unable to carry on, Cesc was eventually substituted—but his brief act of heroism helped his side secure a 2-2 draw. Though it didn’t initially appear to be a serious injury, the midfielder was later seen on crutches. Turns out, Fàbregas scored that penalty against Barcelona with a broken leg! Even when he had every reason to walk off, the Spaniard chose to fight for his team. That’s soccer for you, ladies and gentlemen!

But little does everyone know that such heroic acts also shine through on the women’s side of the game. Well—at least it seemed that way for Christen Press, who was long believed to have scored a goal with a broken leg—until she, alongside Tobin Heath, ended up spilling the beans. It all came on the latest episode of the RE—INC podcast which the power couple hosts together.

During the Q&A segment, Heath posed a query of a fan to Press whether she had really scored a goal with her broken during the 2013 NWSL Championship final. To which, the 36-year-old responded, “Oh my gosh, this is so good. No, I did not.” Shocking right? Well, imagine those who, throughout these years, were thinking that Christen scored her goal despite being injured. But just as we thought the matter would end, she quickly added, “But I do know someone who did.”

Duh? Still thinking who’s that “someone“? Of course, it’s none other than Heath. Interestingly, Press quickly shifted the spotlight towards her significant other and asked, “…Do you [Tobin Heath] wanna tell us about your broken foot goal?” Surprisingly, Heath responded, “No, not at all. But that is true.”

The next question was crucial in determining the credibility and fact-checking of whether Tobin Heath really did score while injured. Christen Press asked if her partner had actually scored the goal with the same foot that was injured. Hilariously, Heath responded, “That’s a great question…Probably not.”

But before Press could even take a moment to go side-split over the confession, Tobin turned the tables with a playful question. She asked CP23 which would be worse—kicking the ball with a broken foot or planting on it. Without missing a beat, Press replied, “Both,” to which Tobin laughed and admitted, “I know, both would be painful.”

Tobin Heath's broken foot goal: Legendary or just another day in the life of a soccer star?

Have an interesting take?

This led Press to begin her interrogation of Heath, asking the retired forward whether her foot was indeed broken. The former Seattle Reign star responded, “It indeed was broken.”

Forget Christen Press, even Tobin Heath unexpectedly lifted the veil!

When asked if she had to undergo surgery or get her foot cast, Tobin denied it, explaining that her bone healed naturally and didn’t require a cast. However, what followed was the most unexpected confession—triggered by Christen’s next question!

Then again, the mystery only deepened as the conversation continued. Press asked Tobin which foot she had actually scored with. Given that the strike came from a set piece, the former Manchester United star said it was the right. That, apparently, still wasn’t a concrete enough answer for CP23, who followed up by asking exactly which part of her foot was broken.

To that, Heath simply replied, “Not sure.” Hilariously, Press couldn’t help but tease, “See, that’s not a real break—she doesn’t even remember.” Heath defended herself, saying, “It was a long time ago,” only for Press to playfully snap back, “God, it’s not that long ago.” But Heath again defended herself, saying, “It was over 10 years ago.”

Yeah, right—we’re betting it was Tobin. Either way, this turned out to be quite an interesting revelation from the duo. In fact, it was a real air-clearer, as fans finally got an answer to the long-standing theory of whether Christen Press—or even Tobin Heath, for that matter—scored with an injured foot!
