With only a couple of match days left, it’s just a matter of time before the 2025 MLS regular season wraps up. And one thing is already clear: Inter Miami has badly fallen short in defending its 2024 MLS Shield title. Even with three games remaining to salvage their campaign, nothing great can be done other than to shift their focus to preparing for the playoffs. Every match will be crucial for them to secure a spot in the last eight. The first of those three comes against the New England Revolution on Saturday, October 4, at Chase Stadium. With so much on the line, let’s take a quick look at the prediction for this soccer match, including team news, expected starting XIs, and more.

The Herons head into this clash on a low, following a 3-5 home defeat to the Chicago Fire. The visitors struck early, opening the scoring within 10 minutes and doubling their lead by the half-hour mark. Tomas Avilés pulled one back for Miami, but Chicago restored their two-goal cushion just before halftime. In the second half, Luis Suárez revived hopes with a quick brace to level at 3-3, only for Chicago to seal the win with two more goals. This defeat means their last five games have produced three wins, one draw, and one loss, making them currently sit 4th in the Eastern Conference with 56 points.

The New England Revolution enter this clash on the back of a solid 2-0 home victory over Atlanta United, sealed by two late second-half goals. Looking at their last five outings, they’ve managed two wins — against Columbus and Atlanta — along with a draw against Toronto, but also suffered defeats to Chicago and Charlotte. Currently sitting 11th in the Eastern Conference with just 35 points, they are well out of the playoff race. Still, they’ll be eager to disrupt Inter Miami’s push and make things difficult at Chase Stadium.
Team News and Injuries
Inter Miami
Javier Mascherano has all the weapons he needs to take on the New England Revolution, with just a few absences to manage. Forward Allen Obando and midfielder David Ruiz remain sidelined with left hamstring injuries, while winger Mateo Silvetti is away on international duty with Argentina at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. However, the challenges don’t end there for Inter Miami.

With the Supporters’ Shield now out of reach, Mascherano faces a dilemma — whether to rest key players ahead of the playoffs or push for momentum with a strong showing. The Argentine tactician could still field his full star-studded lineup featuring Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Rodrigo De Paul.
Then again, all eyes are on Messi, who is chasing the MLS Golden Boot but has gone two games without finding the net, holding just a one-goal edge over LAFC’s Denis Bouanga. And guess what? It’s impossible for Mascherano not to start him, as La Pulga could miss the next game against Atlanta United.
The October FIFA window couldn’t have come at a worse time for Inter Miami, with Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Telasco Segovia all set for national duty. Argentina faces Venezuela on Oct. 10 at Hard Rock Stadium and Puerto Rico on Oct. 13 in Chicago, while Segovia joins Venezuela. Since MLS doesn’t pause for internationals, it’s highly unlikely any of them feature for Miami just a day apart.
New England Revolution
Even the New England Revolution has a near full-strength squad at its disposal, with only a few absentees to note. Peyton Miller is away on international duty, while Ignatius Ganago misses out due to a calf injury. Ilay Feingold remains in doubt as he continues to recover from an ankle issue.
Predicted line-ups:
Inter Miami [4-4-2]: Ustari; Fray, Falcón, Avilés, Alba; De Paul, Busquets, Allende, Segovia; Suárez, Messi
New England Revolution [5-3-2]: Turner; Bye, Ceballos, Fofana, Beason, Sands; Oyirwoth, Gil, Polster; Langoni, Campana
Head-to-Head Stats and Prediction:
Inter Miami: 6 wins
New England Revolution: 3 wins
Draws: 0
The last time these two sides locked horns was on July 9, 2025, when Inter Miami edged past New England Revolution 2–1 in the MLS regular season. Hence, for this clash, we expect the Herons to once again assert their dominance and wrap up the regular season in style with a comfortable victory.
Score Prediction: Inter Miami 2-1 New England Revolution
