Things might be a bit slow for Racing Louisville on the pitch, but off it, they certainly know how to make big moves. In the latest development, the NWSL club has officially named Caitlyn Flores Milby as their new general manager, though she previously held the same position with the ‘interim‘ tag.

The word got around town through the Lavenders on Wednesday. Having signed a contract until 2026, with an option to extend it to 2027, a teaser of the news was posted on the Gram featuring Milby holding the club’s scarf. “We’re excited to remove the interim tag and welcome Caitlyn Flores Milby as our General Manager 🤝,” the statement read.

Likewise, another Instagram post shared by Louisville featured Caitlyn Flores Milby expressing her thoughts on securing this significant role at the club. “Ever since I joined this organization eight years ago, it’s been my goal to make professional soccer successful in Louisville,” she began.

“If that meant setting up on-field signage at Louisville Slugger Field on game day, selling merchandise, bringing thousands of people to our state-of-the-art facilities through our recreational leagues, or ensuring Racing Louisvilles players received the support they needed, I’ve been willing to do it. Now, I’m striving to give this city and fanbase the winning team they deserve.”

Notably, Milby has been a part of the team since 2017, having joined as an intern. She was working with the parent company Soccer Holdings, LLC. But through the following years, she eventually found her way to the top. It was in 2022 that Caitlyn had officially began working with the first team though still retaining an interim tag.

Coincidentally, Milby revealed during an interview with WHAS11 News back in January that she has her fingers crossed in the hopes of converting her interim job into a full-time role. “If not, I would have been the heck out of there a couple months ago,” Milby said. “If the time comes, and that does happen, I know exactly what I’m stepping into, and be able to kind of prove myself.”

An avid soccer fan, the Louisville-born and raised native used to play soccer during her collegiate days. Speaking of her qualifications, the 28-year-old holds a bachelor’s degree in sports administration from the University of Louisville, as well as a master’s in sports leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.

However, talk about a breakthrough as Milby will now be addressed as General Manager. The majority of her role would see her partake in crucial decisions regarding the club, including finances, team rosters, staff, and much more. Overall, a smooth functioning of the Lavenders is expected from the new chief. But more than that, there’s another key issue they’ll be looking to address.

Trophies… when are those coming for Racing Louisville?

Since making its debut in 2021 as an expansion team, Racing Louisville hasn’t enjoyed the kind of glory one might expect. Surprisingly, when looking at their performance over the last four NWSL regular seasons—forget the top five—they’ve consistently finished in ninth place.

As far as the playoffs are concerned, it’s clear they’ve never even had the chance to make a case for the Championship. That said, they did make notable progress in the 2023 NWSL Challenge Cup, reaching the final but ultimately finishing as runners-up after a 2-0 defeat to North Carolina Courage.

This season, Racing Louisville once again sits in ninth place, with just 11 points on the board. In eight games, they’ve managed three wins, two draws, and three losses. Considering the season is still in its early stages, they snag the benefit of the doubt to turn things around.

And let’s hope newly appointed general manager Caitlyn Flores Milby knows how to solve the puzzle.
