Surfing has always been one of the most exhilarating sports to date. There’s nothing like flexing your snazzy board, competitive spirit, and Fsurfing skills atop open waters with the lash of the tidal waves guiding you in tandem. Sometimes, however, the big bad seas have creatures lurking in them that are a surfer’s predator. An incident of a popular surfer getting his left leg fatally bitten by a tiger shark has led to an upsurge of sympathetic fans on the internet.

Kevin Kanehe, a genial 50-year-old, was recently a victim of a life-threatening tiger shark attack. He was surfing The Bowl on a rather sunny day at Hanalei Bay when a “12 to 15-foot shark” sunk its jaws into him. His Samoan instincts kicked in and he actively wrestled with it, as claimed by the Hawaii News Now reportage.

Injured Kevin Kanehe’s surfing spirit hasn’t dipped

Kevin Kanehe is a man of sheer will, determination, and a never-say-die attitude to boot. He is a resident of Kauai and a really experienced surfer at that. His presence of mind yielded him to safety, post which he’s now undergoing recovery at a hospital. Ardent fans took to social media to send in their really wholesome get well soon messages. A godsend surfer brought him back ashore. His beloved wife Deanna gave a rather vivid description of his attack-“The bite went to the bone above and below his knee, taking some chips off his femur, knee cap, and tibia. His knee was torn up pretty bad and into his joint too.”

One fan was a little cheeky with his remark but it was to dissipate the tension – “It’s been almost an hour. Where are all the “it’s their home” folk?”

People were stunned, utterly surprised, and really impressed with Kevin Kanehe’s daredevilry, which luckily led to him escaping scot-free. He apparently poked and prodded the shark in its nasal cavity/nostril, which requires a lot of sleighs of hand so props to him. Truly.
