I had no idea we had this many Nebraska fans in Oregon,” said the ex-Nebraska volleyball head coach last year after the Huskers set a new attendance record of 8,566 at the Matthew Knight Arena. Cook’s confession once again highlighted how Nebraska’s opponents benefit from the Big Red’s fanatical fanbase. One year and a head coach change later, it looks like things haven’t changed a bit.

On October 19, the official Nebraska Volleyball shared how Big Ten volleyball commentators were left with gaping mouths seeing how the Huskers defeated Michigan, in the presence of 12,707 fans, who filled the Crisler Center for a new attendance record. The B1G’s commentators were impressed, and one of them even stated, “We like to say that Michigan travels but holy cow Nebraska Volleyball might have us beat.

The astonishment is well justified. Not only was the turnout for Sunday’s game a new record for the University of Michigan’s volleyball program, but it’s also the new attendance record in the state as well. At the weekend match, the crowd was incredibly Nebraska-friendly, and the Huskers Illustrated’s Lincoln Arneal couldn’t help but joke around at Michigan’s expense. “Props to the Michigan intern who had to photoshop out a lot of the red in this photo,” he wrote on X, sharing the original post by the Wolverines.

This was also Nebraska volleyball’s second victory in the Great Lakes State in two days. On Friday, DBK’s team took down the Spartans (the Huskers also helped Michigan State set a new attendance record of 11,578 at the Breslin Center on October 17), and with the weekend triumph, the team topped off a brilliant trip on the road before heading home. This was also the second time the Wolverines fell to the Huskers this season (back in September, Nebraska bagged its first sweep over Michigan in 2025).

It even marked the 19th different arena attendance record for Nebraska volleyball since 2023. Now, that’s a statistic not many of the program’s opponents can boast about.

On Sunday, Dani Busboom Kelly’s girls swept the Wolverines 18-25, 13-25, 18-25 to wrap up a perfect weekend. On her return to her hometown, the Huskers’ OH, Harper Murray, posted 9 kills on 26 swings. Impressive way to show allegiance to your squad, indeed! But coming back to the attendance discussion,

Nebraska has now won 28 sets in a row, and sits on a flawless 18-0 record (8-0 Big Ten). The Big Red is also 24-0 in Big Ten sets in 2025. The Huskers will now return home to take on Northwestern and a rematch with Michigan State next weekend. But while the homecoming will be on a high note, Dani Busboom Kelly will still have a few rough edges to smooth out to make sure her roster is on top of things for the road ahead.

Nebraska volleyball is looking comfortable despite missing some members

While it is true that Nebraska is on a roll this season, injuries continue to be a major point of concern for many fans. 6-foot-2 outside hitter Skyler Pierce has been out of action for quite a few matches, and even the head coach noted that she was “a little surprised at how long it’s taking the sensational freshman to get back. But then again, it’s also true that Busboom Kelly can rely on her squad, considering the depth this Nebraska volleyball team has.

Moreover, veteran stars like Harper Murray can also help to shoulder extra responsibilities. Back in July, during Huskers’ B1G Volleyball Media Days, the program’s new head coach openly lauded Murray for the latter’s leadership role. “I think Harper really embodies a lot of what this team is hoping to accomplish…Get through hard times, rise up, and come out even better than you were before. I just thought she has done the work, and is a great spokesperson for our program,” Dani said, about Murray’s contributions to Nebraska volleyball.

Looking at the pristine record the Huskers boast, it should be assuring to know that the program is in good hands.
