It is always heartwarming to see the sporting world come together for a greater cause. Like when J.J. Watts raised money for Hurricane Harvey relief, or Lance Armstrong launched his globally popular Livestrong campaign that raised funds for cancer research after his own battle with the disease. It demonstrates a strong sense of community to see people come together in support of something, using their public platforms for good, and this is very much the case in the House of Bricks Pro-Wrestling Fundraiser: Caged by the Bay that none other than John Cena Sr., the father of wrestling legend John Cena, will be making an appearance at.

House of Bricks, a self-described American Wrestling Promotion based out of New Bedford, Massachusetts, is putting together the showcase in support of New Bedford teen, Michael Blechar, who started showing signs of kidney failure last December. When his mother, Amanda DaSilva was finally able to receive a diagnosis, it showed that he only had 10% of his kidney functioning, so he is now in urgent need of a donor, and in the meantime requires 9 hours of dialysis every day.

The proceeds of the House of Bricks showcase that is scheduled for Saturday, August 16th at the King Philip Yacht Club in Fall River, MA will all go towards Michael’s treatment. Tickets are priced at $15 and, other than the charming John Cena Sr,. the event will feature other wrestling legends like ‘The Thunder From Down Under’ Michael Foster, the first time ever steel cage match between ‘Entitled’ Austin James Phoenix vs ‘The King Of New England’ BMT Brendan Michael Thomas.

It also features a Brickhouse battle where ‘anything can happen,’ and a four-way melee Women’s Championship featuring ‘Suplex Sweetheart’ Isana (c) vs ‘Wolf Eye’ Nashoba Naira vs Portuguese Powerhouse Ariel vs Roxanne Fury. Hopefully, all this goodwill from the community will encourage fans to turn up in large numbers to support Michael and his family, and hopefully John Cena Sr., who, during his son’s time in the WW,E has had his fair share of time in the spotlight will be an additional draw.

John Cena Sr. and his journey in the wrestling world alongside his son’s illustrious career

Though his name rings most familiar in the world of wrestling, John Cena Sr. is actually a Massachusetts justice and has been for 14 years, where he has been officiating wedding ceremonies, calling the job “an honor of assisting in the creation of one of the greatest memories.” However, this doesn’t mean that the father of one of wrestling’s all-time greats has stayed out of the ring!

In fact, back in September 2007, John Cena, along with his father and Randy Orton, staged a full-on WWE showdown, where Orton was seen (with all due respect) pummelling the Massachusetts Justice as the junior Cena watched in agony while he was handcuffed to the ropes.

John Cena himself has spoken about his father’s support during pivotal moments in his career, remembering the Unforgiven 2006 when Cena scored a historic victory against his arch enemy Edge. Of the night Cena recalls, “I just wanted to hug my dad. For that moment, I can hear my father’s breath. That’s a way for me to tell my dad I love him and to mean it.” John Cena Sr. responded emotionally as well, saying, “That’s something you can never take away, is my son. Love you, John. I’ll always love you.” The heartrending moments found between parent and son can, at this moment, only bring to mind the journey of Michael Blechar and his mother, Amanda DaSilva, who is working to keep him alive every day.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the wrestling community's support for Michael Blechar a testament to the sport's true spirit?

Which is why this House of Bricks event is all the more important, “Whether you’re a die-hard wrestling fan or a local looking to support a powerful cause, HoB Caged By The Bay is the place to be,” the promotional states, encouraging everyone to show up and show support!
