Valorant ‘First Strike’: Much-Awaited Global Championship Isn’t Far Away

Valorant is undoubtedly one of the leading competitive tactical FPS games out there. The combination of elements from leading FPS and MMORPG titles makes the game a unique competitive FPS title. It was only a matter of time before the game got recognition as an eSports title and could hold its own global championship. Well, looks like that wait is over!

John Needham, the Head of Global Esports at Riot, and Whalen Rozelle, the Senior Esports Director at Riot Games, made an announcement regarding the game’s first global tournament event.

Valorant “First Strike”: A huge leap for the game

‘First Strike’, the first global championship for the game, will kick off in October. Rozelle says,

“This event will provide the first opportunity for players from North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and other places around the world to earn the title of ‘Valorant Champion’ in their region.”

The qualifiers will kick-off from October across the world. The tournament will culminate in the First Strike finals in the month of December. To top it all, the event will be an all-inclusive one and allow both established teams and amateur squads.

However, Riot has not yet stated the terms and conditions of the tourney, neither have they revealed the qualification process. Although, Rozelle asked the community to be on the lookout for further details.

Riot has really high hopes for the game as well as the upcoming global tournament. John Needham, the Head of Global Esports at Riot, says,

“We’re going to invest into expanding our broadcasting capabilities, to build a best in class viewing experience. We’re pushing to develop new and innovative methods for you to engage in our sport. And we’ll continue to grow our internal teams while partnering with leading experts to ensure Valorant becomes the genre-defining eSport of our generation.”

Riot has been a leading brand in the world of competitive gaming. League of Legends remains one of the biggest eSports titles, and so it’s safe to say Riot knows exactly how to go about it. And they’re looking to do something similar with Valorant.
