Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas is aware that he may not be at the German team for very long. So, the Finnish driver has admitted that he is open to a switch to Ferrari if the team decides to let him go.

As of now, Bottas’ current contract at the Silver Arrows is set to expire at the end of this season. With the 2019 season almost halfway through, the team is debating on whether or not to extend it to the end of the 2020 season.

One significant threat to Valtteri Bottas is reserve driver, Esteban Ocon. The French youngster was ousted from Racing Point at the end of the 2018 season and replaced by Lance Stroll.

Interestingly, Ocon has also been linked for a move to either Renault or Haas. Meanwhile, an unlikely name has been thrown in the mix, namely Max Verstappen, who has also been linked to Mercedes.

The Finn though has said that he would want to be in another one of the top teams should  his time come at Mercedes, rather than back in a midfield team.

“Nothing has been signed yet but I am trying to make progress so that everything goes well.

“Of course, if it hadn’t been for Lewis maybe I would have won more races but to be honest I wouldn’t change anything because the situation helps me progress.

“If I have to leave the Mercedes, I would like to be in the team that is in second place. At the moment that team is Ferrari.”

The Finn has turned out a number of decent performances this year, after a torrid 2018 season
