Tried to play Mixed Doubles at the Rio Olympics 2016

While speaking at a pre-event press conference at WTA Abu Dhabi, the 2017 Wimbledon champion couldn’t contain her excitement and stated, “I’m very excited. Very excited about the Olympics. I was excited last year, and I’m still excited. Hopefully, this year is going to happen. So about the mixed doubles? Yes, of course. I’m excited.

“We tried to play them in Rio, but it’s kind of hard to play singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.”

Garbine has been keenly waiting to participate in the Games ever since they was supposed to be held last season. However, they were postponed further due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She would relish the chance to partner Rafael Nadal in the doubles category at the games. Moreover, she would also like to play along with Carla Suarez Navarro.

Always looking forward to playing with Rafael Nadal

Speaking further at the press conference, Muguruza stated, “I’m always super looking forward with playing with Rafa I think is, you know, one of the best players in history to play with I think that would be great. I think that it would be great also to play that was with Carla if she’s able to be back.

“So I want to play in all of the competitions.”

The Spaniard, Carla Suarez Navarro, announced in September last year that she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a malignant tumor of the lymphatic system. However, she is now back on the tennis court, having undergone her chemotherapy. When athletes go through such instances in life, the joy of returning back is unexplainable.
