VIDEO: Shaun White’s Rivals Give Him a Touching Tribute After Final Run at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

It was an emotional moment for all those watching as Shaun White performed his very last run at the Olympics. And even though he couldn’t make it to the 4th gold medal, he will always be the undisputed snowboarding king.

White couldn’t hold back his tears after his last run. In his 23-year-long career, White has proved time and again why he is the GOAT of the halfpipe.

Notably, it looked like his rivals and competitors felt the same. As Shaun White completed his last run, his fellow competitors rose to their feet, giving him a final tribute.

Shaun White – A living legend

Shaun White was just 19 when he went to his first Olympic Games. Then, considered a very young athlete, he ruled the halfpipe and secured the gold medal for himself.

This would go on to happen twice over the next 3 Olympics, as Shaun White established himself as somewhat of a king. He grabbed back-to-back medals in Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010. He didn’t have a great run at Sochi 2014. However, it wasn’t his time to go just yet. White made a solid comeback in Pyeongchang 2018, winning the gold medal again.

Over the years, he became one of the most experienced snowboarders in the world. He was looked up to and considered the very best. And constantly staying on top of his game, White proved his worth.

This Winter Olympics being White’s last, he was even more determined to get the 4th medal. However, that didn’t end up happening. He grabbed the 4th position as started off quite well, but crashed during his last run.

It was an emotional moment for the snowboarding family as Shaun White completed his last run. All his competitors, including arch-rivals Ayumu Hirano and Scotty James, huddled together to pay tribute to one of the greatest of the games.

Even White went out of his way to congratulate Ayumu, who won the gold medal at the halfpipe finals; a display of the spirit of sportsmanship.

Even though Shaun had his fair share of disagreements with the snowboarding fraternity, he will always be a legend. A 3-time Olympic prodigy, White has proved himself worthy of all that he has achieved.

What is White most proud of?

Even though he is one of the best snowboarders, Shaun White never stops improving himself. He is constantly trying to stay on top, and that is exactly what he is proud of.

“The thing I’m the most proud of would be staying on top of a sport that’s ever-changing as long as I have,” White said.

He also added that his performance in Pyeongchang was legendary.

“The last Olympics, one more run, and I had never done that combination of tricks before and just put it down to win, that’s probably my legacy performance.”

There is no doubt that White has left a legacy behind. His performances, his tricks and all the things that made him the star snowboarder will be remembered for ages to come.
