Darren Till is the most promising title prospect from the United Kingdom for UFC right now. Till made his UFC debut at 23 and picked up 5 straight victories in the next three years. However, he lost the title match against Tyron Woodley. He is currently competing in the middleweight division.
Not long ago, he came face to face against former interim title contender Kelvin Gastellum at UFC 244 and won the fight via split decision. In doing so, he established himself as the top guy in the middleweight division. However, before achieving the stage that he has set for himself, Till faced tough competition going up the division.
In his fifth fight inside the octagon, Darren Till faced UFC veteran Cowboy Cerrone, which won him his first Performance of the Night bonus award. And rightfully so, Till was absolutely terrific in his fight against Cerrone.
Darren Till stuns Donald Cerrone
Till had an impressive start to the match, as he managed to evade most of Cerrone’s attacks. Cerrone tried to change the gear by going for a takedown. However, Till was quick enough to keep Cerrone away from grabbing his legs. After a beautiful takedown defense, Till showed the MMA world why he is one of the best fighters in UFC.
He dominated Cerrone throughout the fight and landed many significant strikes. That was before landing the final blow that made Cerrone guard his face and lose the fight. Till dominated someone as experienced and astute a kickboxer, like Cerrone. He found the distance and kept his patient despite rocking him with a combination of punches earlier in the fight. It was the start of a future champion.
What’s next for Darren Till?
Till is still looking for a fresh challenge
Robert Whittaker is scheduled to face Jared Cannonier at UFC 248. Adesanya and Romero are in the talks for the UFC middleweight championship. And with Paulo Costa injured, it leaves very few opponents for Till.
The middleweight division is rising with interesting prospects for the championship belt, and that will benefit the MMA world.
