Former MSU Baseball Player Dies in Tragic Hiking Accident

Tragic news hit the baseball community in the city of Colorado with the passing away of former Michigan State University player Matt Byars. The 27-year-old was on a visit to the Rock Park, near Castle Rock for a rock climbing expedition, where he plunged to his unfortunate demise.

The sudden and horrific manner of death has sent shockwaves through the community.

Baseball player’s free spirit proves costly

According to the reports and eyewitnesses at the scene, he was climbing somewhere close to Interstate 25 when he fell to his demise. People present reported the incident to the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue. The emergency service authorities pronounced him dead as soon as they reached.

Byars was a resident of Wisconsin and played two years for the Heartland Community College before moving to Michigan State. He made an immediate impact and won the Danny Litwhiler Defensive Player of the Team award in 2016 for throwing out 12 runners and leading the Big Ten conference doubles.

Infamous for rock climbing mishaps, this is the fifth climbing related death at Castle Rock. Local authorities mention that climbing on the rock is in fact not allowed and experts have regarded the rocky landscape to be unsafe.

Community celebrates a wonderful life

Michigan State head coach Jake Boss released a statement online.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Byars family,” he said. “Matt was a joy to coach and his big personality was a huge part of our program both on and off the field. We’re heartbroken at his passing due to a tragic rock climbing accident in Colorado.

Drafted by Minnesota Twins in the 24th Round, he refused to move and stayed in Michigan, but could not get any offers after graduating. He then decided to hang his boots and begin the next chapter of his life. According to his family, he eventually found peace with the decision despite initial regret, thanks to his free spirit and positive outlook.

My parents traveled all over with him for club baseball, and he was able to kind of see what other places were like,said his oldest sister, Lindsay Krull.He always loved fishing. He always loved being outdoors. And when he moved out to Colorado, he was really able to do all those things to the max.”

We always kind of knew he wanted to live his life to the fullest.”

She informed the media that there will be no funeral, instead the body will be laid to rest in the picturesque mountains of Colorado, in celebration of his “free spirit” and his “favorite place to be”.
