17 Year Old Cycling Prodigy Dies in a Tragic Road Accident

The entire cycling community rallied together in mourning after the unfortunate death of Magnus White, a cycling maestro. The 17-year-old’s death has sent shockwaves across the entire country.
Magnus was with the USA team, training for the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships, in his hometown, Boulder.

The young prodigy was with the USA contingent in Colorado to train for the all important tournament that is supposed to start next week at Glasgow, Scotland. Magnus was cycling across the shoulder of the highway in Boulder before a vehicle crashed into him. They immediately transferred him to a hospital where they pronounced him dead on arrival.
According to the state police report, the 17-year-old was riding on highway 119, also called the ‘Diagonal’. The car involved in the accident was a Toyota Matrix and the driver was a 23-year-old woman. As per the preliminary investigations, she crashed into the boy from behind after trying to switch lanes and hit the fence on the side.

Investigations revealed the young woman was not under the influence of any substance while operating the vehicle and ruled out any foul play involved. She escaped the accident with no injuries.
Tributes for White pour in
White won the 2021 USA Cyclocross Junior Men’s National Championship and competed on the junior men’s national squad for USA Cycling. He competed in his second cyclocross world championship earlier this year in the Netherlands after representing the United States in the first one last year in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of our beloved son, Magnus White,” his parents said in their statement to the media.
“Magnus was dedicated to his family and friends and loved to surround them with laughter. He had an amazing smile that always lit up the room, bringing joy to those around him.”
Tributes to the young athlete poured in on the internet. The sudden demise has left every member of the community in great grief and Magnus’s legacy was visible in the out-pour of love he received.
The Governor of Colorado put out a heartfelt message for the young boy and sent prayers.

United States cycling team too posted a beautiful tribute to the genius that was Magnus White.

Magnus was a complete sports person with great aspirations and plans. He aimed to graduate early from business school to train for international competition. His death has certainly rocked the cycling world and once again, raised questions on the overall safety of the sport and needs accountability.
