The residents of Melbourne and football fans across Australia woke up to the devastating news of the passing away of former Adelaide Crows rookie Rowan Andrews. Authorities found his motionless body in the early hours of the day at around 5 am near the Laverton Railway Station, 25 kms west of Melbourne’s CBD.
Rowan ‘Rooster’ Andrews as he was affectionately called by his friends and family, passed away at 38, leaving behind a family of two children and a wife. According to the reports, Andrews was found dead near the station at 4:50 am in the morning. He was already dead at the time of the discovery. After a promising AFL football career, Andrews joined the police force a decade ago.
He was quite a popular figure in his community, well-respected, and a bloke everyone called the ‘gentle giant.’ The sudden death of the Tasmanian has certainly left several members of the community, his colleagues, former teammates, and coaches all in shock.

He had moved to Melbourne shortly after getting married in 2019 and played for the Macedon Cats, who released quite the statement upon his signing that read: “Rooster is an excellent ruckman with heaps of experience having played at state league level with Glenelg in the SANFL, Tassie Devils in the VFL and Ainslie in the NEAFL.”
Countrywide tributes pour in for ‘Rooster’ Andrews
Tributes for Andrews poured in from all over the country. He started his football career in 2003 with the Adelaide Crows after being listed as a rookie. He played at SANFL, VFL, NEAFL level, and local football in the ACT and Victoria but never managed to break into the professional level.

Despite not making it to the top of the league, Andrews enjoyed his peers’ great respect and camaraderie. He left a permanent mark in the minds of every person he met, and that was reflected in the love, affection, and support his family received during this torrid time.
Several of them called him a ‘gentle giant’ and ‘a pillar within the greater football community,’ highlighting just the impact his presence had on them. The last club he played for, Macedon Football Club paid a tribute to the veteran and said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing today of Rowan Andrews. Rooster was with the Club during 2020 and 2021. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends & colleagues,”
