Lake George is set to host the 32nd edition of the 4-on-4 Million Dollar Beach Volleyball Tournament. The event promises fierce competition and camaraderie among over 800 participants. This tournament will showcase athletes’ skills while serving a greater purpose.

Amid the backdrop of exhilarating matches on August 5th and 6th, this tournament isn’t just about athletic rivalry. It’s a testament to unity for a philanthropic endeavor. While players compete for victory and bragging rights, they do so with the knowledge that their efforts contribute to a significant charitable cause.

Allen Moon, a dedicated participant, and volunteer, emphasizes the sense of camaraderie that underpins the competition. “For me and almost all of the players, this is a very competitive tournament. A lot of bragging rights come with doing well or winning. But all of that pales in comparison to knowing that this tournament raises so much money for the Center.”

The significance of this tournament reaches beyond the volleyball courts. Anne Schneider Costigan, a spokesperson for the Center for Disability Services, emphasizes that the event isn’t merely about sports; it’s a platform for raising awareness and crucial funds for the Prospect Center’s programs and services.

The annual competition has grown in prominence since its inception in 1991, attracting participants from across the country and even beyond U.S. borders. Photos of last year’s event went viral on Facebook.

Million Dollar Volleyball: A Vibrant Event of Growth and Impact

With more than 85 teams vying for victory across 17 courts at Million Dollar Beach, spectators are in for an exhilarating display of talent. The event kicks off each day at 9 a.m., with teams divided by division (AA, A, BB, or B). Saturday will see men’s and women’s teams compete, while co-ed teams will take the spotlight on Sunday.

Beyond the competitive spirit, the tournament offers a chance to explore the natural beauty of Lake George. Spectators can revel in the picturesque surroundings, indulge in water activities, and enjoy the festivities the area has to offer. Additionally, merchandise will be available for purchase, allowing attendees to contribute to the Prospect Center.

Moon succinctly captures the essence of the tournament’s impact, stating that the event bridges the joy of sports with a philanthropic mission. The funds raised—often surpassing $30,000—directly benefit people with disabilities, reflecting the heartwarming synergy of sportsmanship and compassion.
