Meredith’s extraordinary story of triumph

Meredith Spear, a high school cheerleader; has also been the reigning homecoming princess. She has been cheering since the very tender age of five and has been a member of the Gibson High School sophomore. Going back to the day Meredith was born, her father Shawn Spear said, “Everybody was shocked”.

Meredith’s arrival into the world came with a surprising diagnosis of Down Syndrome. This news came as a shock to her parents and the doctors. Her mom, Robin Spear could not believe this was the bitter truth of their life. They rechecked every previous USG report and every test report.

But going against every barrier she started leading her teenage life on a regular note. With an aide by her side, she started to attend school. Meredith has always been ready to learn new things whenever she is offered an opportunity. Her classmates revealed that she has also taken an interest in and participated in extracurricular activities.

Cheerleading royalty with down syndrome

She participated in the spring musical alongside other clubs at her school. Although she has been doing her best in every possible field and trying to get ahead of societal perceptions and expectations, the sky has not always been all clear of clouds.

While others of her age are getting their license during their late 20s, it has been getting tougher for the young little child. “We are the ones with the disability, not her. She doesn’t judge people, she doesn’t see you for the clothes you wear. She purely just sees happy and sees people and that is not a disability”, said Meredith’s mother, Robin.
