While rock climbing is exhilarating and adventurous, it is not without its risks. In a tragic turn of events, a student lost her life while climbing one of the most picturesque Cherokee Rock Village, from 90 feet of height. The emergency responders quickly responded to the matter. However, they could not save the student even after many efforts. The local authorities are investigating the matter for the time being. Zang was a popular student, and her death came as a shock to everyone. Given that this was not new to the climb as this was her second climb, one slight error led to her fateful end.

An Error in Judgement

Cherokee Rock Village has a steep overhang, making it quite challenging to climb. People with her during the climb believe there was some issue with her rope. It was in such a position that it unclipped when it had tension from her weight. It’s very important to take all the precautions during such expeditions. A slight error in judgment can become very fatal.

Usatoday shared the University of Georgia statement regarding the accident.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy that took the life of University of Georgia first-year student Faye Zhang. Our deepest sympathies go out to the student’s family, and we will continue to provide counseling and support to members of our community who have been affected by her passing.”

Zang was an outstanding student and also took part in co-curricular activities. She was attending the University of Georgia and was a member of the University of Georgia’s Foundation fellowship, which is the topmost scholarship in the school. Indoor rock climbing was also something that Zhang enjoyed as she was a part of an indoor rock climbing gym near UGA. The whole incident is unfortunate, and the whole family is mourning the loss of the girl.

Yutong ‘Faye’ Zhang- Gone Too Soon

Zhang was a very young girl who lost her life in an unfortunate event. In expeditions like these, as important as it is to have professionals, safety and security hold the topmost priority. This loss will be hard to compensate for her family members. Losing your daughter at such a young age is never a good feeling. The authorities are investigating the matter and trying to find the cause of the fall.
