In Bucks County, a group of young hockey players from Pennridge High School is doing something truly heartwarming. They have put a benchmark on the sporting gesture.

It is the idea of helping the disabled which is truly being appreciated all around. They’re making ice hockey more accessible to everyone, especially for kids from Philadelphia Blind Hockey.

Ice Hockey turns accessible for blinds

These dedicated players realized that visually impaired children might enjoy ice skating more if they had a little help. So, they had this fantastic idea to create skate assists using PVC pipes. You might have seen these at skating rinks, where they help beginners find their balance.

One player’s mom, Audrey Winton, found instructions online for making these skate assists. A supportive dad, John Venner, went to the local Home Depot and shared the players’ plans. The response was incredible. Home Depot donated all the PVC piping and supplies needed for the project. Plus, a generous private donor chipped in to cover the connectors.

A few weeks ago, a group of players got together to build these special skate assists.
