The third edition of the Hollywoodbets Durban 1okm race is all set to begin next month, on the 3rd of September. The popularity and following of the race has grown tenfold in the past few years and has reached a massive milestone in its third edition.

Top runners from all across South Africa participate in the event every year and this year’s edition promises to be nothing short of a carnival. They say, ‘Third time’s a charm” and this couldn’t be truer for Hollywoodbets Durban 10km race. The sporting event now holds the title of the most financially and commercially rewarding in South Africa.

Hollywoodbets Durban 10km race gets prize money boost

The new title comes after the event organizers increased the total prize pool to R342 500.00, which is almost a 100% increase from the previous edition’s prize money. The athletes who come first will receive R 35000 each, i.e, the first male and female to cross the finish line. The prize money for second place stands at R 27500 and for the third place it is R 25000.

The event will be held at the picturesque venue: Kings Park Stadium, a place with great historic significance for South African Sports.

The buzz is only getting bigger

The competition is set to host some of the most prominent names in the runners circle and promises to be nothing short of extravagant and exciting! Former Hollywoodbets Durban 10km race winner Colleen Mulaudzi spoke to the media about the competition and the eagerness of all athletes and himself to participate in the prestigious event and said,

“To win it again will be priceless for me. That would mean, I have won the race twice before anyone else does that. It would be a piece of history.

“At the start of the year, I told myself I set the target to run sub 28 minutes but in this race, I want to run 28 minutes early. A new personal best time will mean I’m getting close to reaching a target.”

His fellow club mate Matthews Leeto too is all set to be part of the racers list for the event. The South African runner will have his spirits high after grabbing a victory at the recently concluded Foskor Half Marathon.

Participation from the women’s athletes too has a star studded line up. Gerda Steyn or “smiling assasin” as she is affectionately called by her followers, will be part of the event. There are bunch of other notable names too from the runners circuit participating in the event: Hollywood Athletics Club’s Cian Oldknow, Tayla Kavanagh and Irvette van Zyl.

The organizers of the event are buoyed by the immense buzz the event has generated and the increased interest of top athletes across the nation is a great sign. The event only promises to grow bigger commercially and in stature.
