The community of Tennessee, especially members of the swimming and diving family, were devastated after learning the news of Ben Kredich’s death. A beloved member of the swimming and diving fraternity, the news of his death left people distraught and the manner of his death only added to the sorrows.

Son of Tennessee head coach Matt Kredich, the 24-year-old lost his life on Monday after a vehicle crashed into him in Knoxville. The driver of the fatal vehicle was arrested by the officials at the scene and reports revealed that he was driving under the influence.

Tennessee’s swimming community hit with a tragic wave

They charged the driver with two crimes, vehicular homicide and driving under the influence. It is definitely heartening to see the accused and person responsible getting nabbed.

His father Matt Kredich is a well-known and respected individual in the community due to his long association with the swimming and diving fraternity. Ben’s family revealed to the media that he lived with autism but neither him nor the family ever treated him differently.

He completed his education from the University of Tennessee, with a degree in music. His mother Kim, is a choral conductor who has devoted a large chunk of her life to assist children with disabilities. With the help of his mother, Ben played the piano in local assisted living centers.

Ben’s Life

Ben is survived by his parents, Matt and Kim Kredich and two brothers, Coleman and Miles. The media spoke to one of the brothers after the tragic passing away of Ben and he said, “Autism just seems like an adjective,” Coleman Kredich said of his older brother.

“He was always my brother, he wasn’t my brother with autism. He was always a friend, he wasn’t someone’s friend with autism. And that was pretty incredible.”

The Kredich family is big part of the Tennesee swimming community’s history. Matt Kredich is a very decorated man with several accolades to his name. He was a four-time SEC Women’s coach of the year and has also trained the likes of Erika Brown and Christine Magnuson, champions of the sport.

The loss certainly left a huge void in the hearts of the community and they will be devastated for a while.
