It was November 24, 2021, when Trevor pulled off the audacious stunt. He was an experienced pilot and skydiver, but in the quest to get views and virality, he took it one step too far. With cameras strategically placed on a single-engine Taylorcraft BL-65, he packed a parachute, a video camera, and a selfie stick.

After 35 minutes of flight, he took a brave leap right above Los Padres National Forest. His entire idea of the video was capturing the plane crash, and his entire journey to the bottom. He had actually ‘staged a plane crash’. Two days later, he informed the National Transportation Safety Board, and they held him responsible for withholding crucial information about the wreckage.

But that was just the start. After the authorities carried out their enquiry, they asked him about the location of the wreckage, but he denied having any information. Authorities investigated and found the former Olympian snowboarder guilty of obstructing evidence after he got rid of the wreckage himself.

The court handed him a six-month jail sentence and charged him for destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation.

Where did it all go wrong?

Authorities in their investigations revealed that Trevor returned to the crash site, loaded the wreckage and kept it all in his own trailer. He then carefully destroyed any sign of wreckage and disposed of them across several dustbins.

Interestingly enough, Trevor still uploaded a video about the whole incident and titled it “I Crashed My Airplane”, which contained footage that could very well be used against him. He also lied to a federal agent after falsely reporting a power failure in the aircraft.

After this, things only went downhill for Trevor. A participant in the Winter Olympics 2014, a semi-finalist in the snowboard cross, was now in the middle of a legal hassle. He spoke to the media about things after the crash and his thoughts about the incident now.

“When I jumped out of the plane, I jumped and I’m like, ‘You just made the biggest mistake of your life,” Jacob told Good Morning America.

The prosecution was clear in its stance. Such behavior is not be tolerated and if anyone messed with the law, it will come to haunt them. Stripped of FAA pilor license in 2022, Trevor now has a tough six months in jail ahead of him.
