The Paris 2024 Olympic Organising Committee is currently making an effort to exude calm after weeks of escalating instability and scandal both inside and throughout France. The $4.5 billion running budget for the Paris Olympics is under control, according to committee president Tony Estanguet, which marks a significant change in tone, especially keeping in mind the controversial run until this point.
The event has already been dogged by serious corruption allegations, controversy over alcohol restrictions, issues with high ticket prices, extremely ambitious event logistics, and the city’s intended treatment of its homeless population during the Games. There are only 53 weeks until the start of next year’s games.

According to ESPN, Estanguet said, “Just recently, we passed the 1 billion euro ($1.1 billion) mark in secured revenue from our partners. This is unprecedented. It’s obviously the first time that a sporting event in France has raised so much money from companies and partnerships.”
Committee comes clean
Estanguet claimed that the private sector—which includes the IOC, partner businesses, the ticketing office, and licensing—funds 96% of the budget. By the end of the year, organizers hope to acquire 92% of the money, he continued.

With 6.8 million tickets now sold, Estanguet remarked, ticket sales have also been good. “We continue with enthusiasm and serenity in a bid to achieve this goal.” Meanwhile, contrary to this claim, several fans feel that ticket prices are on the higher side for the Games in Paris.
Estanguet said partnership agreements are on pace with one year to go before the opening ceremony, with 22 new sponsors joining since the year’s beginning. But while the organizers seem optimistic and are not pressing panic, previous experiences say otherwise. The declared expenses for the pandemic-affected 2020 Tokyo Olympics fluctuated substantially, and the Olympics have a long history of going over budget.
