World Number two tennis player, Ashleigh Barty sailed into the fourth round of the US Open 2019 and set up her encounter with the Chinese tennis player, Wang Qiang. The reigning French Open champion, Barty couldn’t make her appearance in the quarterfinals of US Open 2019.
The 18th seed, Qiang defeated her 6-2, 6-4 at the Flushing Meadows major. With this win, Qiang makes her first-ever appearance at a Grand Slam tournament.
The unforced errors by Ashleigh Barty were peaking the match and the Chinese tennis player was just controlling the tennis ball and the top-ranked Australian gave away free points to her. In the opening set, Qiang broke Barty twice and held a 4-1 lead.
Barty’s atypical slices were not placed inside the court and the Chinese had an exemplary control on her service games. She played some magnificent tennis and sealed the set 6-2.
The Chinese progressed into the second set with a break and a hold. The second seed of the tournament was in a real dilemma as she was trailing behind by a set and a break in her pre-quarterfinal encounter at a Grand Slam.
Qiang was relentless in the second set and did not allow Barty to come close to her service games until 4-3. The eight-game of the set witnessed the warrior inside the Australian Number one.
She held the point at a 22-stroke rally with a pleasant backhand winner and had four chances to stabilize the set at 4-4, but an epic game by Qiang moved her a game closer to her quarterfinal spot.
A determinant form of Barty emerged in the next game, as she saved match points of stay in the fourth round of the New York major. Once again, on Qiang’s serve, Barty had chances to elongated the battle, but with her prevailing unforced errors, the Australian couldn’t pull off a single service game of Qiang in the entire match. Consequently, Barty became the biggest upset of the tournament so far.
Moving towards the first Slam quarterfinals… QIANG!
