World No.1 Novak Djokovic is considered one of the most brutal forces in our sport. Post-2011, the Serb transformed his game and took it to another dimension. His ability to turn defense into attack still remains unmatched. The manner in which he can place the backhand on either side of the court is his backbone. 

Around the course of the US Open this year, Novak led a group of players and resigned from the ATP Players Council. He, along with Vasek Pospisil and John Isner, formed the PTPA (Professional Tennis Players Association), stating that it would represent the voice of the lesser-known players.

While preparing for the ATP Finals in London, Djokovic reflected on the current situation of the PTPA and said,

“We do not want to have an aggressive approach as has been said. We want players of all levels to be heard and their problems are taken into account, especially since hundreds of Players complain about the current system. We have to see how players can benefit from tennis, to be able to participate more and be able to make a living from that.”

He assured that there is no intention of creating a division in the game. The concern from Novak does seem genuine. With the effects of the pandemic, things must’ve surely been difficult for the not so privileged players.

He added, “I understand that there is criticism because people wonder if this is the right move or if it is a way to divide tennis. But for us it is not like that, our value and our essence is to improve.”

Unlike his rivals Federer and Nadal, he is very expressive and wears his heart on his sleeve. Even though the Swiss and the Spaniard are far more adored than him, that doesn’t affect Novak.

As a matter of fact, it motivates him even more and he uses it to his advantage. The Serb looks to end the season on a high note considering that he has had below-average performances in the recent past.
