The Coronavirus pandemic has led to intense speculation over the status of UFC 249. UFC President Dana White has been incensed at the media-created negativity around the event. He recently lost his cool over a question from a journalist, saying he doesn’t give a f***.

Earlier, he said that people should stop doubting him as he stays true to his word. The UFC President even hinted at self-producing the event in his arena. Dana White’s promotion has canceled 3 fight nights at London, Columbus, and Portland. However, his protege Sonnen doesn’t seem to face any issues with Submission Underground.

SUG12 will go ahead as per schedule

The promotion will return on March 29 with the SUG 12. The event will take place at Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon. Sonnen, in conversation with Din Thomas on UFC Unfiltered, said that the journey has been challenging. He admitted that they are still working on some kinks, as the restrictions have tied his hands as well. “We went from 50 people in a room to 25, to ten to 8,” said Sonnen.

The octagon will reportedly house three people, including two athletes and a referee. They have pulled the announcers, and the cameraman and will lock more cameras that will feed still shots to a truck outside so the director can piece them together. Sonnen added that he was ready to take his shirt off and wrestle a mop before a single camera before he let the event get canceled.

He seems to be hard-pressed and determined to ensure SUG goes ahead and had some fun with his former boss.

In a video shared on Twitter, Sonnen decided to share a new joke that was going around to Dana White. White gave his go-ahead and Sonnen’s screen apparently froze. White waited for the answer before remarking, “Oh he froze at the punchline, he froze at the punchline, that’s f****** brutal.”

Twitter reacted to Dana White getting pranked in a hilarious manner

Some wondered if Dana ever found out the punchline, while others wondered if White got the meaning of the freeze. Another common comment was, “legend has it Dana is still waiting for that punch line.” Speculations suggest that the video could have been him taunting White about holding his event in the same stage where White could not. The freezing of the video could also refer to Sonnen going underground or White’s UFC fight night 172 in Portland being frozen in its tracks.

White, however, has his hands full in finding a venue to host the highly anticipated UFC 249 Nurmagomedov vs Ferguson. If UFC 249 is indeed canceled after all this time right near the due date, it will be, to quote Dana White, “f****** brutal.”
