WATCH: Coach Gilles Cervara Leaves Daniil Medvedev’s Box After Disappointing Set at Australian Open 2021

Everyone knows the potential that Daniil Medvedev has. But the Russian’s occasional outburst and meltdowns on the court have hurt his chances.

The player himself does get frustrated, but this time while his match at Australian Open 2021, his coach got frustrated and left the stadium.

Medvedev was playing Filip Krajinovic in the 3rd round of the Australian Open 2021. Here he had taken a comfortable 2-0 lead and looked set for a straight-set victory. But he was broken in the third set and from then there was only frustration and he kept scolding his box.

Medvedev lost the third set and being 4-1 down in the fourth set, his coach Gilles Cervara got up with his bag and left the Rod laver Arena. After that, he didn’t return to his prodigy’s match.

Medvedev did a lot of ranting once he lost his serve in the third set. From there, his coach had enough and left the stadium.

The match had everything. Medvedev’s meltdown was evident, and that cost him the third set. In the fourth set, Medvedev looked uneasy and went off the court after taking a medical timeout.

It was surprising to many as Medvedev was ranting on the court in English. During Krajinovic’s comeback, Medvedev couldn’t believe the strokes he was facing.

“It is unbelievable,” shouted Medvedev.

Medvedev had never won a five-set match before today’s third-round match. He had played 6 five-setters, losing all of them. His most prominent five-set loss was the US Open 2019 final loss to Rafael Nadal.

But Medvedev broke his fifth set hoodoo against Krajinovic. Medvedev bageled Krajinovic in the fifth set to win his first five-set match. Furthermore, the Russian continued his unbeaten 2021 streak and extended his overall win streak to 17.
