As much as the battle of skill between them was fascinating to watch, the duo made it even more interesting, bringing about a smile on the faces of the viewers sharing a light moment on the pitch. During the 14th over of the match between Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans, de Villiers hit a full toss straight back at Steyn when he decided to have some fun with it.
Steyn walked up to de Villiers, threw the ball at the stumps, and raised his finger to suggest de Villiers was out as the batsman began to put the stumps back.
Here’s a video of the incident-
ABD went on to score 31 off 26 balls and it was Steyn that eventually dismissed him.Steyn eventually completed with a figures of 3-10 in four overs leading the Blitz to a 16-run victory. Steyn’s dismissals of included Wiaan Mulder and Dean Elgar apart from that of AB de Villiers, and the performance yielded him the Man of the Match award.
“I am having fun and enjoying my cricket and it shows in my performance. AB’s the best in the world. I don’t think I got him out in 20 years. It’s been a long time,” Steyn was quoted as saying by SA Cricket mag after his match-winning performance.
“It’s always fun and challenging playing against him.”
Steyn praised fellow right-armer Sisanda Magala, who helped the team in the victory.
“Sisanda has been the find for us. He bowls the 18th and 20th overs for us and he doesn’t moan. He’s fantastic,” Steyn said.
While de Villiers has retired from all forms of cricket now, Steyn is still available in the limited overs format and will be hoping to stay fit to play for South Africa.
