Whyte ran into and overcame a number of hurdles in a journey that lasted for over 1000 days. He was the number one contender for the WBC heavyweight title and waited for his turn for quite some time.
In this time he was required to prove himself time after time, and he did so. With just one fight between him and his long-desired shot at the WBC world heavyweight title, he was almost there. The only thing that stood in his way was a fight against Alexander Povetkin.

Whyte walked into this fight as a favorite. He was expected to breeze through this fight. Povetkin was the underdog. And according to the odds, he barely stood a chance. Unfortunately, Whyte’s fairy tale run ended.
The ‘Body Snatcher’ could not secure the victory against Alexander Povetkin. Whyte had his lights knocked out in the fifth round when Povetkin landed a mean uppercut. The underdog once again shone through, and Whyte’s career took a hit.

Whyte is one of the hardest working and most determined fighters in the world of boxing. No man can compare to him in terms of determination and fighting spirit. Less than a week after this heartbreaking loss, he was back to his old ways. Back in the gym, training harder than ever before.
