Former World No.5 Eugenie Bouchard crashed out of the French Open 2020. Bouchard, who received a wildcard, lost to Polish teenager Iga Swiatek in straight sets in the third round at court Simonne-Mathieu. Swiatek hammered 30 winners past Bouchard and will now face No.1 seed Simona Halep in the fourth round.

Unseeded, Swiatek broke Bouchard’s serve three times in the first set and then again at the start of the second set. Although Bouchard fought back to level the second set at 2-2, Swiatek won four consecutive games to wrap up the match.

Bouchard, ranked 168th, had defeated Daria Gavrilova in the second round despite losing the opening set. The Canadian had reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2017 Australian Open. During the post-match conference, a journalist questioned Bouchard on whether she believes she can reach the level she was at one point during her career.

However, Bouchard’s downward trajectory began in 2015. Since then, she has continuously lost in the first or second round of Grand Slams. Before entering the French Open 2020, Bouchard made it to the finals of the Istanbul Open. Unfortunately, she lost in the third set tie-break.
