What has Eugenie Bouchard Changed?
Eugenie Bouchard has decided to switch from a double-handed backhand to single-handed backhand. In the Twitter post, she said that it has been her dream to play like that and since she has a long break she has decided to practice it.
She also attached a video to the post where we can see her practicing the single-handed backhand. She is obviously not able to hit it consistently as she is just starting out but it looks like her backhand will be ready by the time the tour resumes.

It looks like the single-handed backhand is making a comeback. In the 1970s and 80s, the single-handed backhand was very popular but slowly people shifted to the double-handed backhand.
Now NextGen players like Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas are playing single-handed. Now, along with Eugenie Bouchard, it looks like we may see many more tennis players playing single-handed backhands. I do not know how people may feel about that but it is a sign of change.
While we are talking about this change, it is important to note that it is not going to matter unless the tour returns. This begs the question – when is the tennis season returning? Unfortunately, there is no clear answer.

The tennis season was to resume in June but has now been extended to July. The situation is not getting any better with the coronavirus so we do not know when the tour will return. Let’s hope that the vaccine undergoing trials works and we can see Eugenie Bouchard’s new backhand this year.
