During the 24 Hours of Dubai, a frightening incident took place involving two mechanics from different teams. One was pushed into the path of an oncoming car in the chaos. Luckily, he managed to escape serious injury. by a rival team member, causing a nasty-looking collision in the pit lane.

The race itself was riddled with numerous incidents before the event that was red[flagged before the halfway point due to very heavy rain. It got to a stage where the officials elected not to restart the race after a lengthy red flag overnight.

What happened During the 24 Hours of Dubai race?

The No 989 MRS GT-Racing Porsche 991 made a routine pit stop and the stop was completed without a hitch. However, the real drama was when the No 77 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan entered around the same time as the Porsche. The MRS Porsche quartet of Gosia Rdest, Jukka Honkavuori, John Hartshorne and Ollie Hancock got the green light to exit the pit box.

However, unbeknownst to them, a Barwell mechanic was running around with a Lamborghini tyre, and as he passed the MRS crew member he shoved him out of the way. The poor MRS mechanic was thrown forward and his head smacked into the rear wing of the Porsche.

Mercifully, the mechanic escaped serious injury but was still in a state of shock after the incident. He was promptly rushed to the medical centre for an assessment, before being given an all clear with only minor injuries.

Were there any repercussions?

Bizarrely, the Barwell team only copped a four-minute time penalty for causing the accident, though the punishment should have been more harsh. The incident took place early in the rain-interrupted race that was eventually red flagged. When the race was stopped, only seven hours and 17 minutes of racing were completed as the heavens opened.
