There were questions surrounding Khabib’s training frequency after news broke of his father being severely ill. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has been involved in training the UFC champion ever since he was young. Given the serious nature of his illness, the training schedule Khabib would follow was unknown.
Abdulmanap tested positive for the coronavirus and has been under extensive care in Russia. Reports suggest that other pre-existing conditions have heightened the malady. Legions of fans reached out in support when Khabib broke the news.
His manager Ali Abdelaziz has provided updates from time to time.
Khabib Nurmagomedov: Born champion
It appears that ‘The Eagle’ is maintaining an extensive regime despite the complications in his personal life. Not to mention, hungry contenders surround the champion, looking to add a loss to his record. The Lightweight division is notoriously overflowing with stiff competition and is considered on the most stacked divisions in the promotion.
Khabib Nurmagomedov last defended the strap in September 2019 against Dustin Poirier. He has been an unstoppable juggernaut inside the cage with a relentless top-heavy game. Opponents are well aware of his smothering strategy but offer very little in terms of resistance. He has shown a tenacity to his craft, rarely seen inside the cage.
Every time he steps into the octagon, he wagers his legacy, making each fight a spectacle. The gold standard for greatness has become linked with the Dagestani fighter’s name. It is easy to see why, given his astute work ethic even in the face of adversity.
