An ugly brawl transpired at the Allen Fieldhouse immediately after Kansas Jayhawks beat local rivals Kansas City Wildcats. Something you would not want to witness on a Basketball court.

In the final possession of the game, when the Jayhawks were looking like comfortable winners, Silvio De Sousa went for a block on DaJuan Gordon and the game came to an end. As Gordon fell to the ground, the environment heated up and players from the bench swarmed around the scene almost immediately.

Players from both sides came out and started fighting each other. At one point, De Sousa was seen holding a stool over his head ready to hit someone.

A strict action awaits Kansas Jayhawks & Kansas State Wildcats

A brawl of such nature is bound to have its ramifications. While De Sousa was already given a technical foul on-court, he is expected to receive much more after the officials take a look into the incident.

Also, all the players who left the bench were ejected. It remains to be seen which players and other members of the team come under the scanner as the officials look to take action against the incident.

Following the brawl, Kansas athletic director Jeff Long issued a statement apologizing for the incident that read:

“The conduct of a few of our student-athletes at the conclusion of tonight’s game vs. Kansas State was simply unacceptable and not reflective of who we are. Coach Self and I will review the incident, along with the Big 12 Conference and Kansas State to determine appropriate consequences. There is no place for this conduct in college athletics or here at KU. I would like to apologize to the Big 12 Conference, Kansas State University, Gene Taylor, Bruce Weber and all fans for the lack of sportsmanship from members of our team this evening.”
