After the game, Penguins coach talked about the incident saying he was worried about his captain getting hurt.

“I just don’t want him to get hurt,” Sullivan said after the Penguins’ 7-2 shellacking of the Blue Jackets on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena. “I understand why he did it. I certainly give him high marks. That’s certainly part of his leadership, but I just don’t want him to get hurt.”

“These guys are such great players, but they’re great leaders as well,” Sullivan said of Crosby and Malkin. “Sid sticks up for Jake. He’s a courageous guy. These guys are great leaders. They know what it takes to win. I think that’s why they’ve had the success that they’ve had here in Pittsburgh.”

Crosby also talked about it after the match.

“I just wanted to go over there and stick up for him,” Crosby said. “It wasn’t much. It was more of a wrestling match than anything. Was lucky to get a five out of it, not a four.”

“I don’t know what I’m doing, to be honest with you,” he further said. “Just one of those things, it happens. It wasn’t planned. I saw the hit. Didn’t know what was going to happen when I went over there. It just kind of happened.”

“Yeah, trust me, I don’t have many opportunities to get ‘em,” Crosby said with a smile. “If I had an opportunity for one, I usually know it. It doesn’t happen that often. Would’ve been nice to get one [Saturday].”

The match had eventually ended 7-2 in favour of the penguins and they face the Jets next on Wednesday.
