World No.1 Rafael Nadal was involved in a chucklesome fight with his team-mate Pablo Carreno Busta during an interview at the Davis Cup 2019 in Madrid.

Pablo Carreno Busta was asked why Rafael Nadal was not happy during Spain’s practice session at the Caja Majica stadium. The Spaniard revealed that Nadal wanted to defeat him but failed to do so.

“It’s just that he wanted to beat me but he couldn’t do it and since he couldn’t do it and since he doesn’t like to lose, he’s a bit mad but nothing too bad,” Pablo said, laughing.

However, Rafael Nadal denied his defeat as he explained that he had 2 breakpoints at 4-4 when they were forced to stop the match. “Well 4-4 and 15-40, can you tell me who won? I think maths are not the strong suit for Pablo,” Nadal said while making fun of Pablo Carreno Busta.

On the other hand, Pablo did not budge from his viewpoint as he replied to Nadal: “In the end, 4-4 to me is a draw, we could ignore the 15-40.”

“It was 15-40 to me, it’s just that over here they don’t want to. The hour was over but it’s true that he has a great serve. He had a 90% chance to save the break,” Nadal responded.

Pablo Carreno Busta, however, justified that Nadal woke him up early in the morning in order to practice at 9 AM and he was half asleep during their match.

He said: “I think we must notice he tried to trick me by practicing at 9 am while I was half asleep but it didn’t work.” 

Rafael Nadal taunted the young players and replied: “They want to practice at 12 these youngsters.”

Recently, Nadal claimed the ATP year-end No.1 trophy for the fifth time in his career at the ATP World Tour Finals 2019, drawing level with Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Jimmy Connors in joint second place behind Pete Sampras (6).

Talking about the year-end No.1 trophy, the Mallorcan said: “The one they gave us doesn’t look so much like that, it’s a bit smaller. It’s a replica a bit smaller. I have it nowhere. It’s with the ATP, they send it over, later on, it will be at the museum soon.”
