The ATP Hamburg Open has seen some huge upsets in its first round itself. Notably, World No.5 and 1st seed at the tournament Daniil Medvedev went down in a disappointing straight-set loss to Ugo Humbert. Further, 3rd seed Gael Monfils lost to Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann. And Kei Nishikori who recently returned from a long term injury succumbed to a straight-set loss against 22nd ranked Cristian Garín.
Before the Hamburg Open, we had the Italian Open 2020. And World No.1 Novak Djokovic staked his claim for the forthcoming French Open as he won his 36th ATP Masters 1000 title in Rome. The French Open has begun with the qualifying rounds being held this week. The main draw matches begin next week. Defending champion Rafael Nadal returned on tour last week at the Italian Open.
