Many unusual things have taken place in tennis in the year 2020. This year has witnessed smiles, anger, frustration, struggle, and some of the finest and best shots. If someone were to start giving awards at the end of the year, the craziest shot of the year award would go to Victoria Azarenka.

The shot had all the traits. It was crazy, lucky, weird, cheeky and something that not even the ball boy would have returned. At the WTA Ostrava Open 2020, Azarenka, in order to return a shot from her opponent, took the help of her backhand slice. She wanted to reduce the speed of the ball and deliver a delicate drop shot. But what happened after that was a rare sight.

The ball literally started rolling over the net. It continued to roll over for about 1-2 seconds before dropping in her opponent’s area. It was definitely one of the craziest net points for Azarenka. The Belarusian player could not believe her fortune and gave a priceless reaction after it.

If fans were present, they would have surely cheered it with huge applause. It was a fun scene. Her opponent was helpless. But Azarenka’s reaction added charm to the shot. Azarenka also reacted on Twitter, acknowledging her shot.

Azarenka had quite an impressive year in 2020. After the long break, she defeated Serena Williams in the semi-finals of the US Open 2020, despite losing the first set. But she could not win her third Grand Slam there as she lost to Naomi Osaka in the final.

She looked in great touch in the Italian Open 2020. In the first match, she exacted her revenge on Venus Williams, who had eliminated her from the Top Seed Open 2020 earlier in the year. In the second round, she defeated Australian Open 2020 winner Sofia Kenin 6-0, 6-0. But she could not get past Garbine Muguruza in the quarters of the tournament. But the highlight of the tournament was her class act when she helped Daria Kasatkina, as she was not able to walk on the court after an injury during the match.

French Open 2020 is not something that the 31-year-old player would like to remember for long. She never looked in great form and got eliminated in the second round only.

Victoria Azarenka is currently playing at the Ostrava Open 2020. She recently defeated Barbora Krejcikova in the Round of 16 to cement her place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Fans hope that she continues to play well and goes on to win the title.
