It has been 2 years to the day since Conor McGregor led an unprecedented bus assault. The incident took place after the UFC 223 media day at the Barclays center on April 5th. ‘Notorious’ and a few others entered the arena and proceeded to target the bus carrying the fighters back to the hotel.

It seemed to be a premeditated attack with ‘The Eagle’ as the intended target. During the incident, McGregor threw multiple foreign objects at the vehicle. A video shows him sprinting to the bus, lifting a dolly and hurling it at the front window. UFC President Dana White said, This is the most disgusting thing that’s happened in the history of the company.”

Why did Conor McGregor attack a bus?

Khabib Nurmagomedov had a scuffle with Artem Lobov two days before the incident. Lobov is one of ‘Notorious’ close friends. When the Irishman heard of this he and a few friends boarded a plane for New York.

The shards of glass caused injuries to Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg. As a result, they were pulled from their fights as was Artem Lobov who was part of McGregor’s group who led the assault.

In a Washington Post article Chiesa claimed the assault caused him physical, emotional and financial harm. He believed he was in line for a shot at the Lightweight title which was plagued with issues of fighters not making weight.

‘The Notorious’ was charged with three counts of assault and one count of misdemeanor. Later, the charges were dropped as ‘Notorious’ pleaded a no-contest. He had to perform 5 days of community service.

McGregor fought Khabib in September that year. After the fight, Khabib jumped the cage and assault McGregor’s team. At the same time, Khabib’s teammates jumped in and landed clean shots at McGregor too.

‘Notorious’ is promised the winner of the Ferguson- Nurmagomedov match. However, it remains to be seen if that fight will take its place on Fight Island. The rematch, if it happens, will be a hotly anticipated one as the fighters continue to take shots at each other even to this day.
