Ferguson returned to the octagon after a year lay off due to injury. Coming off a victory against Kevin Lee at UFC 216, Ferguson faced Anthony Pettis in the co-main event at UFC 229.

The match started like every Tony Ferguson fight as El Cucuy advanced towards former champion Anthony Pettis. Both the fighters shared punches and kicks as Ferguson advanced again to connect his lethal elbow.

However, Ferguson, as sneaky as he is, evaded the situation. In what could have been Ferguson’s first loss in 11 fights, he managed to ensure a victory via doctor stoppage. The fight received Fight of the Year award, and Tony Ferguson was awarded the Performance of the Night award.
Both the fighters battled for ten minutes in what was a complete blood bath. Ferguson picked up the victory, however, Pettis put up a brilliant performance.

What’s next for Ferguson?
Ferguson took on Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight championship at UFC 216. He beat Lee via submission in the third round to grab the UFC gold. He was later stripped of the title due to injury.

Tony Ferguson will face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship at UFC 249. It will be the fifth time that both the fighters have signed a deal to fight each other. One can only hope that the fight takes place this time.
Meanwhile, Anthony Pettis is set to take on Diego Ferreira at UFC 246 on Jan. 18 inside T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
