Khabib Nurmagomedov urges his fans and people of Russia to stay indoors and understand the gravity of the situation we are currently in.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, UFC lightweight champion wants people to respect the stay at home orders currently in place and help combat this global pandemic. Russia has imposed a lockdown which requires it’s citizens to stay at home and practice the discipline of social distancing to help flatten the curve.

The undefeated Russian returned to his home town of Dagestan in Russia after his fight against Tony Ferguson was postponed. This fight was eventually canceled because of the travel bans in place. Khabib was unable to leave Russia to make it for the fight. The country had stopped all flights going out or flying into the country in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.

Russia recently said that the number of cases within their country is still on the rise and all efforts need to made to help slow down the transmission. They have extended their lockdown to the 11th of May. This will be followed by an eventual ‘phase exit’. Allowing people to resume going to work.

Khabib Nurmagomedov speaks to the people of Russia

Khabib took to Instagram to share his views with us. He said, “Many hoped that this trouble would pass our house by; many still don’t believe in the seriousness of the situation. However, our negligence toward the advice and requests of doctors, coupled with the panic that has developed among the people, has led to a high rate of the spread of the disease, worsening an already difficult situation every day. This has led to the fact that our hospitals are now overcrowded with patients, there aren’t enough specialists or drugs, and the number of patients is only growing.”

He made a humble and sincere request to his people, asking them to follow the laid down guidelines. Khabib said,” Believe me. This disease is deadly and we already feel it. Staying at home, we can reduce the burden on doctors and hospitals, and perhaps our timely care will save lives. Take care of your loved ones, do not let them out of the house unnecessarily. May Allah protect us all from all diseases and cure the sick and loved ones all around the world.”

This situation isn’t an easy one to deal with. We need to support our government and their strategies. Social distancing should be practiced by everyone, irrespective of which country you belong to.
