Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff have had a pretty interesting on-court rivalry. Both of them have been compared by many people because of their similar fan appeal and playing style.

Their close friendship makes their dynamic even more interesting. Both of them used to train in the same facility and their families are familiar. Their shared African-American heritage also makes the two compatible with each other.

A very heartwarming moment at the US Open 2019 saw Osaka calling Gauff up for the interview after she had defeated the teenage star. Since then, the two have been revered by the fans. Coco Gauff had some kind words to say about Naomi Osaka.

Gauff reflected on the beautiful relationship between the two stars that stretches across years.

“Yeah, I first met Naomi, I think I hit with her at the Miami Open maybe three years ago. Our dads always knew each other. When I talked to her, we do have similarities. I remember I was complimenting her headphones because I saw she designed it. Like, these are pretty cool.

“I think she’s doing amazing, obviously. Hopefully, I can get to her level. I mean, she’s amazing. She’s a nice person. I mean, I can’t even, like, say anything bad about her, her family, because they’ve always been super nice, even since I was 12.”

Gauff got an incredible victory over Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open this year. Osaka was the defending champion and a top title contender. However, she looked completely out of touch against Gauff and lost in straight sets.
