“We Need More People Like Roger Federer”: Stefanos Tsitsipas

Rising tennis sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas trained with the 20-time major champion Roger Federer at the Swiss Indoors Basel 2019 last week.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals of the 2019 Swiss Indoors Basel, explained that he learned a lot from the Swiss maestro while training with him in Basel as his approach is quite different from others.

The Greek gun revealed that Federer and he talked about other fellow mates on the ATP Tour.  “We spoke of other players. How they play, what they do on the court,” Tsitsipas divulged details behind chat with the Swiss maestro.

He further added: “I find very interesting to understand how Roger sees tennis, what he thinks and what he goes through. I can tell you he is pretty different than other players. I feel I can learn a lot from him. And even if he may become an opponent days after, it’s nice to have this kind of relationship.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas further praised Roger Federer as he explained that he was delighted to share the court with the Goliath of the sport and suggested that tennis needs more people like Federer. Tsitsipas disclosed that the 20-time Grand Slam champion has a unique way of approaching the game which was fascinating for the 21-year-old.

“He is such a nice guy. We need more people like him in tennis. We had interesting conversations. It was a big proudness of sharing the court with him, competing in the same team as his. During the doubles, I liked seeing how he thought and communicated,” Tsitsipas added.

“I found his approach very different than my usual partners. I was pretty fascinated, to be honest,” Stefanos concluded.

The world No.7, who will make a debut at the ATP Finals 2019 next month, will commence his campaign for the Rolex Paris Masters 2019 against Taylor Fritz on Wednesday.
