HBO’s The Last of Us series was, unsurprisingly, a massive hit. It was almost faithful to its source material, and whatever they decided to add on their own made perfect sense. This series was so successful that it even allowed the franchise to expand its fanbase.

Thanks to this monumental success, the series creators decided to carry on with a second season. The second season would be based on The Last of Part II, and the creators of this series have much to say about it.

Season 1 of the Last of Us series was an insane showcase of what happens when someone does justice to a game property. They made this series in such a way that it did not take any pointless liberties with the game’s story.

Ellie and Joel were as excellent as they could ever be. Besides that every newly introduced character actually worked to bring more depth to this story. But this does not mean that this series has never strayed from its main storyline. There were episodes that featured completely new characters and plot points.

Who can forget that episode about Bill and his life with the love of his life? And then there was that episode that actually showed the origin of the fungus that caused all the havoc in the first place.

Most importantly, they added one very important character to this story that was completely unexpected. They added Ellie’s mom, and they introduced Anna to people. Played by none other than the legendary Ashley Johnson. This episode portrayed how Anna went through all the problems of the treacherous world she lived in just so she could give birth to and save her child. Of course, this sequence was a prolonged flashback, and this appearance got positive reviews from fans all over.

When someone asked showrunner Craig Mazin about the possibility of such sequences in season two, he just said one thing, “There’s always a chance for everything. With us, you never know, and we obviously don’t confine ourselves to timelines. People who are dead sometimes reappear, and sometimes we meet people that we didn’t even know, and then we find out that they are somebody.”
