“We Should Just Park It” – Andy Murray’s Mother Not Happy With Resumption of Tennis Tour

The ATP and WTA tours are suspended until at least July 31st due to the coronavirus pandemic. The governing bodies of tennis are expected to make a call on June 15th whether when and how the tour will resume. However, Andy Murray‘s mother Judy Murray feels that the 2020 season should be scrapped.
Judy believes that it would be fair for everyone to restart the professional tour when an anti-coronavirus vaccine is developed. She is certainly not in favor of continuing the 2020 season. However, Judy acknowledged the fact that some players are desperate to compete while others are cautious to travel during these unprecedented times.

“We should just park it and start again at the beginning of next year, almost like a clean sheet,” Judy Murray BBC.
“That would be fairer to everybody. It feels to me that until there’s a vaccine, I don’t think you’re going to get a full complement of players anywhere,” she continued.

“It’s so tough because everybody sees things in a completely different way. I believe there were 400 players on a Zoom call discussing with the ATP. The men all discussing what they felt about going back. Of course, you’ll get some who desperately want it and there are others who are more cautious. I wouldn’t like to be the tournament director,” Murray concluded.

On the contrary, the organizers of the US Open and the French Open are confident about holding the Grand Slam tournaments this year. The top authorities are also finding every possible alternative to hold the events and ensure the safety of those involved.
Tennis is a lucrative sport for those at the top but the players at the lower echelons often struggle to make ends meet. These lower-level professionals depend a lot on the tournament earnings to get their income. Hence, these players would hope to resume the tour soon.
