

The majority of stakeholders are supporting Roger Federer’s suggestion of merging the ATP and WTA to get through the coronavirus pandemic with the help of a “strong” global organization. However, Nick Kyrgios, who is renowned for his outspoken views, is against the union of the two governing bodies.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Roger Federer suggested that “now is the time” to unite the men’s and women’s tennis associations. The Swiss maestro explained that the ATP and WTA have different schedules, rankings systems, and revenue distribution systems, which makes tennis more complicated for the fans.

Hence, the unification of the two entities is a must. Subsequently, Federer received support from many past and current professionals. However, Kyrgios explained that all the players should be consulted before making the decision.

Nick Kyrgios refuse to support the idea of ATP and WTA merger
“Did anyone ask the majority of the ATP, what they think about merging with the WTA, and how it is good for us?” Kyrgios wrote on Twitter yesterday.

It was unclear by Nick’s statement whether he is in support of the initiative or not. Nevertheless, he has now clearly expressed his opinion on the matter. “We shouldn’t merge”, wrote Kyrgios.

Kyrgios is yet to give details as to why he feels that the two organizations should not merge. Nick might be suggesting that the ATP and WTA should not merge but join forces and collaborate to get through the pandemic.
