One of the most prestigious tournaments on the tennis calendar is soon about to begin. The French Open 2021 is expected to be an action-packed event, where all the top players will push each other to the fullest. It also happens to be the only Grand Slam event that is played on the clay courts.
The French Open 2021 begins today. From May 24 till 28, the qualifying rounds are scheduled to take place. Following that, the main draw ceremony will be held on Friday and the first round matches will begin from Sunday, May 30 onwards.

The qualifying round matches begin at 10:30 am on May 24. Players will have to win the three qualifying matches before they book a spot in the main draw. When the main draw matches begin, the tournament will continue for two weeks. This year, the women’s final will be on Saturday, June 12, and the men’s final will be played on the Sunday following that.
All the best players in the world are part of this magnificent event. However, Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal is the favorite to lift the title for a record 14th time. On the women’s side, defending champion Iga Swiatek will be a tough competitor, and World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty is expected to go deep into the tournament.

Unfortunately, former French Open champions Stan Wawrinka and Simona Halep have pulled out of the event due to injuries. Olympic Gold medalist Andy Murray has also joined the list of absentees.

In a positive development, Swiss superstar Roger Federer will be featuring at this year’s edition. It will be his first Grand Slam event after he was last seen competing at the Australian Open 2020.
On the men’s side, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic can be a threat to the rest of the players. Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas, Austrian athlete Dominic Thiem and German ace Alexander Zverev can also cause upsets during the fortnight.
