In the late 1980s and the 90s, Wesley Snipes stood out as one of the top stars of his era. Movies like Passenger 57, Rising Sun, New Jack City, and the top-rated ‘Blade’ franchise led to him dominating the box office and becoming a huge part of pop culture at the time.

Nevertheless, his mismanagement of his finances led to the IRS asking him to pay $23.5 million in taxes from 2001 to 2006. Snipes couldn’t respond, leading to a three-year imprisonment from 2010 to 2013. During his appeal and trial, Snipes attempted to settle for less cash than the IRS had initially requested.

The court then decided to adjust Snipes’s payment to $9.5 million and as such, to generate the income he needed, Snipes challenged Rogan to an MMA fight in 2010 before his prison term would officially begin. The two men had engaged in beef in 2005 for reasons that remain under wraps, and as such, UFC official Campbell McLaren advised Snipes to seek out a fight with Joe Rogan.

In a podcast episode from 2016, Rogan revealed that Snipes had intended to fight fellow action star, Jean-Claude Van Damme. But McLaren’s advice to Snipes led to the pair engaging in negotiations about the proposed contest.

Rogan revealed, “You have to fight someone who was ‘current.’ So he said, ‘would you fight Joe Rogan? And he said, ‘Yup, let’s do it.’ So they came to me, and I went, ‘How much money?’ And then they started talking, then I said, ‘OK, let’s see what happens.’”

The proposed fight eventually fell through and Snipes was ordered to serve his prison sentence in 2010. However, when asked how the fight between the pair would go, Rogan stated, “He’s never wrestled; he never had a competitive martial arts match, whether it’s a kickboxing fight or karate fight. I was like, ‘I’m gonna choke the f*ck out of this guy. I’m gonna get a hold of him, and I’m gonna squeeze the sh*t out of him, and they’re gonna give me a lot of money, and he’s probably not even gonna get hurt.’ That’s what I thought.”

His comments indicate that Wesley Snipes would have been in for a rough night if the fight had gone through! However, another guest on his podcast recently spoke about his intentions for another ‘super-fight’ between two massive ‘social’ figures!
