Scott Coker has come out and spoken. There is finally an update on the return of Bellator.
Scott Coker, the CEO of Bellator, recently spoke with MMA Junkie. He gave an update on how the organization is dealing with the current pandemic. He spoke about how they’ve kept all their fighters, staff and officials safe. As an added bonus to fans, Coker hinted at a July return in terms of in-ring action.
Speaking to MMA junkie about the return of in-ring action, Scott Coker said, “The plan really is to come back sometime in July, either on the Paramount line or the CBS line. And start doing fights in a closed environment with no audience, at least for the first 3 or 4 months.”

He continued, “Even if they say audience can come back, honestly I think it’s going to take time. Because people don’t have confidence. The consumer is not going to want to come to a sporting event and be around thousands of people right from the beginning. I think it’s gonna take some time to earn people’s trust. But in the meantime we’re going to continue promoting live events, creating content, and putting these big fights on in a closed environment.”

Scott Coker says people come first
Coker also gave us a little insight into what they have done to make sure all their people are well taken care of in these times. He said, “We paid all the fights, all the officials. We paid for the cut men … everybody got paid. The reason we did it because we felt the health and safety of these individuals were not protected.”
Speaking like the businessman he is, Scott Coker said, “Yes, at the end of the day this is a business. We’ll make up those fights. We’ll make up the money. But health and safety is something you can’t make up if things go bad. So it’s a business, but a business of people. A business of fighters. And when the time is right, you’ll get the call. We’ll take care of you and honor our contract. Just be patient and we’ll get through this thing together.”
