The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer takes the players on a trip back to the 80s. The game is set during the initial days of the 1980s, when the Cold War was at its peak. But it is also known that the game will include missions from the Vietnam War that took place during the 60s.

According to reports, Black Ops Cold War is a direct sequel to the original Black Ops title. So where does this put the game in the Black Ops timeline? Maybe a conclusion can be drawn from the facts.

Black Ops 1 was the game that introduced the community to the infamous trio of Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and Jason Hudson. The story began with Mason being interrogated about certain numbers on the screen meant. This was when the campaign missions started, which were a series of flashbacks from Mason’s past.

The title also included Viktor Reznov from Call Of Duty World at War, who played a major part in the game’s story. He aided Mason in his bid to escape from the Russian Gulag and helped him return to the United States. After a series of missions, Mason, Woods, and Hudson found themselves in Vietnam, pursuing Dragovich and putting an end to his plans for the Nova 6. This was when the team lost Woods, who tackled an enemy, Kravchenko out of a window.

As the game progressed, Mason discovered more about his past. Eventually, he found out that Reznov had sabotaged his mental conditioning. Reznov did this to exact his revenge on Dragovich, who murdered his friend, Dimitri Petrenko. The game finally ended with the death of Dragovich and a hidden message showed that Frank Woods survived the explosion.  All these events took place in a span of eight years, from 1961 to 68.

Events of Call Of Duty Black Ops 2

In Black Ops 2, the story plays out between two different timelines. The first one is set during 1986-1989, and the second one goes way into the future in 2025. Black Ops 2 also brings the band back together. It has also introduced choices in The COD franchise that affected the ending of the game. The lives of the players, the alliance between the US and China during the Second Cold War, all depended on player choices. Sadly, the game also showed that Jason Hudson was killed by Menendez.

This gives the events of Black Ops Cold War very little time to operate within. The events of the game probably take place in the early stages of the 80s. This would put it just a few years before Black Ops 2 and almost 12 years after Mason stopped Dragovich. This probably puts the events of the story during 1980-1985.

The game also has a few missions based during the Vietnam War. Historically speaking, the Vietnam War ended in 1975. This means that players will definitely see a flashback mission/s or two different timelines like Black Ops 2. Here’s where it gets interesting.

Frank Woods Backstory Reveal?

Black Ops Cold War brings back the dream-team of Hudson, Woods, and Mason. Since it is based after the events of Black Ops 1, the Vietnam mission/s could possibly take place during 1969-1975. Additionally, this is also when Frank Woods was shown to be incarcerated in Hanoi. This probably means that players could see a Frank Woods backstory and learn more about his escape from Vietnam.

The game also introduced two new characters – Russell Adler and Helen Park. These two will work together with the trio of Woods, Mason, and Hudson. It’ll be interesting to see how the game will add these players to the picture and build the story around them.

The game’s multiplayer reveal will take place on September 9, 2020. It will introduce the community to the new multiplayer maps, weapons, and more, and also possibly provide more information about the Beta Access for the game. Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War comes out on November 13 and the anticipation in the community is running very high right now!
